What is USGBC? The Washington, D.C.-based U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is a 501 c3 non-profit organization committed to a prosperous and sustainable future for our nation through cost-efficient and energy-saving green buildings. For professionals who support green building design, construction, and operations, the LEED Green Associate credential denotes basic knowledge of green building principles and practices and LEED.

What is GBCI? Green Building Certification Institute 

The LEED Professional Credentials and Exams are now administered by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI). 

Application fee: $50
Exam fee: $150 for members and full-time students and $200 for all others 
CMP renewal fee: $50 every two years

Upgrade Your LEED Credential with Principles of LEED

GBCI has introduced Principles of LEED, a free, intensive, six-hour webinar series that will give LEED APs a specialty credential and can be used by those already opted in as an alternative to prescriptive CMP.

  • All LEED APs can earn a BD+C, ID+C or O+M specialty credential through the series.
  • LEED APs with specialty doing prescriptive CMP can satisfy their prescriptive credential maintenance and LEED-specific requirements and shift their reporting period from prescriptive to regular CMP through the series.
  • All other LEED APs with specialty and LEED Green Associates can earn up to six LEED-specific CE hours for free through the series.
