LEED for Homes: Tour of the Farr Residence

The USGBC Florida Gulf Coast Chapter's Tampa Branch is excited to team with Fieldstone Architecture and Engineering and Kathleen Farr to open the Farr home to the public for a tour of this high-performance residence.

Located in the historic Temple Terrace neighborhood of Riverhills, this project is LEED registered and hopes to achieve Gold status. Owner Kathleen Farr's design criteria was admirable and simple: environmentally sensitive, durable, low maintenance, high-performance envelope, adds value to the neighborhood, demonstrates best practices, dog friendly, and the highest LEED rating possible!

Architect Bryan Barrett and the design and engineering staff of Fieldstone introduced Kathleen to LEED. She embraced the program and wanted to incorporate it into her new home design. She immediately entered her home into the LEED certification program and managed the detailed application process. The team effort allowed the design and construction team to focus on the physical constraints of the project.

The home is meticulously designed around two 100-year-old live oak trees -- the structure is perched above the roots, below the canopy, and around the large trunks. Some the features of the home include concrete grade beams on 60' timber piles; insulated concrete form building envelope; geo-thermal mechanical system; high-efficiency lighting and plumbing fixtures; xeriscaping; rain gardens; and a contemporary architectural design style.

Please join Bryan, Kathleen, the design/build team and the Tampa Branch's volunteers for a guided tour of this distinctive project. Parking is limited, carpooling is encouraged.
