THE HOME OWNER AND CONTRACTOR INTRODUCTION TO LEED FOR HOMES

AND PROGRESS ENERGY RESIDENTIAL INCENTIVES FOR ENERGY CONSERVATION

With the escalating cost of fuel impacting the average citizen’s monthly expenses, it leads one to wonder whether the cost of electricity or water might be next. This concern is coupled by the current residential buyer’s market, which requires a creative approach to differentiate a home’s value for an increasingly discriminating consumer. How does energy, water, and material conservation of a high-performance home fit into this current economic model? How can you save on monthly utility expenses or offer these benefits to a potential home buyer? How can you defray the cost of upgrades or renovations through utility incentives?

Darren Brinkley, President of REAL building, will provide the LEED for Homes introduction with a case study of the first LEED for Homes GOLD certified home in the state of Florida. Based in St. Petersburg, Darren has completed this local St Pete Certified home and is currently planning the next local LEED for Homes project. Come learn about the project management approach, the specific conservation strategies implemented, and the hurdles overcome along the way.

Gary Cook of Progress Energy will present the available opportunities for home builders and home owners to increase their home’s efficiency thereby saving on monthly utility expenses, assist the utility to meet growing energy demands without the need to expand power plant infrastructure, and feel good about adding “green” and value to their homes. With the available incentives, these improvements make more sense with every passing day!
