Every Drop Counts: Applying Water Efficiency Strategies

With our world facing unprecedented water scarcity and supply issues, designers and influencers are prioritizing water conserving strategies. In this one-hour course, learners will evaluate water efficiency strategies for flush and flow fixtures, identify uses for nonpotable water, and address optimal operation of process systems including cooling towers.

Participants will discover how to reign in building water use by increasing efficiency and reducing potable water consumption. We address water consumed by fixtures, fittings, appliances, equipment, and processes including cooling towers. Perform water use calculations, and apply these strategies to achieve points in LEED.

This course has been GBCI Approved (0920006963) for 1 LEED AP BD+C, GA, and 1 AIA CE.

The Chapter will report hours to GBCI on behalf of attendees. Attendees will also receive a Certificate of Attendance.

Course Objectives:

1. Describe the physical limits on the availability of water for human use.

2. Calculate the baseline and design cases for indoor water use.

3. List strategies to reduce total use and potable use of water.

4. Assess cooling tower use, and identify how to calculate the optimal number of cycles.
