Florida will face many existing and new water challenges in the future - sustainable water supply, water quality, floodplain management, and natural system restoration. Mr. Suau will present what is on the horizon for water management and demonstrate how multi-disciplinary collaboration and a whole-systems or watershed approach can provide complementary solutions.

Mr. Stephen Suau is a managing partner with Progressive Water Resources, LLC and Collaborative Community Design, LLC.   He is a civil engineer with over 22 years experience in Florida.  Although he has been involved in all facets of civil engineering design, permitting and implementation with the private and public sectors, his specialty is watershed management planning and water resources.  Mr. Suau has performed regional watershed studies that concurrently restore natural systems and develop alternative water supplies, engaged local communities relative to watershed management at the neighborhood scale, and is currently involved in initiatives that bring low impact development water management strategies together with new urbanism and mixed-use development forms at the building scale.

Mr. Suau has a Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Illinois in Civil Engineering and a Masters in Engineering Administration from Bradley University.  He resides in Sarasota, Florida and has served as chairman of the Sarasota County Stormwater Environmental Utility Advisory Committee, co-chairman of the Sarasota County Environmentally Sensitive Lands Advisory Committee, vice-chairman of the Myakka River Planning Advisory Committee, and the Sarasota County Sustainable Agriculture Policy Committee.  He has also served as Executive Director of Sarasota County’s Planning and Development Services Business Center and General Manager for Sarasota County’s Center for Watershed Management.  Mr. Suau is past president of the Florida House Institute for Sustainable Development and chairman of the Sarasota County Economic Develop Corporation’s Biomimicry Committee.  He is currently also providing technical assistance to the Century Commission for a Sustainable Florida.
