Designers course # 8700
Architects # SC0730
LEED AP # 0090004440

This course takes a look at several materials and finishes that we come across every day in our lives. On the surface -they can be beautiful, soft, and inspiring -but the key is to understand the story beneath. What makes the leather so soft? What's used in the manufacture of that beautiful polished chrome? And hopefully as we go through each of the materials, it will inspire others to begin to ask some important questions -in both our personal and professional lives -and demand alternatives that are better for people and better for the planet.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
  • Explain the environmental impact of common materials and how we are exposed
  • Polished Chrome
  • PVC and Phthalates
  • BrominatedFlame Retardants
  • Pesticides and Insecticides
  • Stain Resistors and Non-stick Coatings
  • Promote safe alternatives and encourage awareness
  • Identify where these materials may exist and how we are exposed
  • Identify ways to influence change
