Thanks to our MASTER GARDEN SPONSORS

Garden Concept:

The garden is based on Permaculture principles and is designed to attract students, teachers, and after school participants to the space.  Volunteers would maintain the space thus allowing teachers to focus on lessons and garden experiences rather than maintenance. Perennial edibles will edge the fence line including lemongrass, ginger, blueberries, sunflowers, Okinawan spinach, moringa, lavender, and perennial peanut.  A Star fruit tree, papaya trees, and a loquat tree will grace the corners for height and shade. Tangerine trees will be planted in the western exterior.  The garden will feature 2 keyhole annual garden beds constructed from  recycled plastic. There will also be a spiral herb garden near the center and eventually a passionfruit vine or muscadine grape vine ramada for shade and garden lessons.  There is  interest in creating a large water barrel or cistern system to assist with irrigating the garden.  The exterior of the space will be landscaped with native perennial bushes low enough to make the garden visible to teachers from the outside fenced area. The garden is a fenced area about 40 ft. by 80 ft. Interior unplanted space will be mulched.
